Fork in the Road

A number of Unity City Academy students recently visited The Fork in the Road restaurant in Middlesbrough.

It is a charitable, none profit making restaurant for people who have had to choose a path in life at 'a fork in their road'. The staff and students had the opportunity to meet the founder of the restaurant and charity, Mr Andy Preston. Mr Preston took great delight in spending time with the students and answered all of their enthusiastic questions.

Jamie was shown around the kitchen by the head chef, who explained the processes of the working kitchen. The head chef was so impressed with Jamie and his good manners that he has invited him to get back in touch when he is in year 10 to arrange a possible work experience placement.

The students were mature in their approach to the formality of an actual restaurant and the expectations. They spent some time looking at the menu, discussing the correct use of cutlery, appropriate table manners and appropriate etiquette. Staff at the restaurant articulated that our students were 'delightful' and 'the most polite customers' that they have had to date.
